Ontario Tech and the Canadian Mobility and Aerospace Institute connect students with Canada’s rail and mobility industry

Ontario Tech University partnered with the Canadian Mobility and Aerospace Institute (CMAI) to host the 2026 Competencies Forum, Inter-Connected Canada, bringing together students, industry experts, employers, and leading organizations from Canada’s mobility sectors.

CMAI is a national not-for-profit organization that connects employers and post-secondary institutions to support workplace learning, skills development, and industry connections across Canada’s mobility ecosystem.

The event welcomed over 14 industry partners, and students engaged directly with industry through two panels focused on in-demand competencies, emerging workforce needs, and career opportunities. Students participated in networking sessions with employers, providing opportunities to learn about organizations, ask questions, and build professional connections.

Reflecting the theme of Inter-Connected Canada, the forum highlighted the importance of connecting education, industry, and talent development to strengthen Canada’s mobility ecosystem. By deepening Ontario Tech’s relationship with CMAI and its network of rail and mobility-sector partners, the forum supports the development of career-ready talent, industry-connected learning, innovation, sustainable transportation, and modern infrastructure across Canada.

With over 180 students in attendance, the event reinforced the role of partnerships between post-secondary institutions and industry in preparing students with the competencies and connections needed to contribute to Canada’s evolving mobility workforce.
